Louisiana Updates Earned Income Poster; New LA Labor Law Poster Required

The latest required change to the Louisiana labor law poster is on the Earned Income Credit poster.

New 2012 income limits for eligibility for Earned Income Tax Credits (EITC) have been added, including an increase in the maximum eligible income from $43,000 to $45,000.

Information about EITC resources has also been added.

Connecticut Paid Sick Leave Poster Only Required for Service Workers

February 2nd, 2012

Q:  Is a poster required for the new Connecticut Paid Sick Leave Law that went into effect Jan. 1, 2012?  Will this labor law poster be added to your Connecticut poster? 

A:  According to the Connecticut Department of Labor, the labor law poster that was issued for the new Connecticut Paid Sick Leave Law is only required for employers of service workers.  Since it is industry specific, it will not be added to our Connecticut state poster.

Hawaii Updates Discrimination, Plant Closings Posters; New HI Labor Law Poster Required

The latest required changes to the Hawaii labor law poster are on the Laws Prohibiting Employment Discrimination poster and the Notice to Dislocated Workers/Plant Closings poster.

New information includes:

  • Employment Discrimination – new protected categories of gender identity or expression, civil union status, credit history, credit report, and domestic or sexual violence victim status.
  • Plant Closings – bankruptcy added to business transactions that require employers to give notice of possible layoffs or terminations at least 60 days in advance of business closure

Michigan Updates Youth Employment Poster; New MI Labor Law Poster Required

The latest required change to the Michigan labor law poster is on the MI Youth Employment poster.

Under October 2011 amendments to the Michigan child labor law, students age 16 or over may now work 24 hours in one week while school is in session.

This poster is now published by the Michigan Department of Education and includes information about the Department’s policy against discrimination.

Wisconsin Updates Hours for Minors Poster; New WI Labor Law Poster Required

The latest required change to the Wisconsin labor law poster is on the WI Hours for Minors poster.

New information includes:

  • Minors under 14 may work in certain occupations, such as street trades or agriculture. 
  • Minors 16 and 17 years old must have eight hours of rest between shifts when they work after 11 p.m.

Seven States Update Minimum Wage Posters; New Labor Law Posters Required

December 15th, 2011

Seven states have updated their Minimum Wage posters with increases that go into effect Jan. 1, including Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Ohio, Oregon, Vermont and Washington.  The following changes require a new state labor law poster (except Washington):

  • Arizona:  Increase from $7.35 to $7.65
  • Colorado:  Increase from $7.36 to $7.64
  • Florida:  Increase from $7.31 to $7.67
  • Ohio:  Increase from $7.40 to $7.70
  • Oregon:  Increase from $8.50 to $8.80
  • Vermont:  Increase from $8.15 to $8.46
  • Washington:  Increase from $8.67 to $9.04 (informational notice only)

The minimum wage rate in all of these states is adjusted for inflation every Jan. 1, according to state law.

California Updates Discrimination & Leave Posters; New CA Labor Law Poster Required

The latest required changes to the California labor law poster are found on the CA discrimination poster and two family leave posters.

These 3 changes are based on new state laws that go into effect Jan. 1, 2012:

  • Discrimination & Harassment in Employment:  New protected categories include “gender, gender identity and gender expression” and “genetic information”.  New Revision Date of 11/11.
  • Pregnancy Disability Leave (Notice A) for 5 to 49 employeesEmployers must continue health benefits to employees on pregnancy disability leave.  Employers may not deny or interfere with employee rights under this law.  New Revision Date of 11/11.
  • Family Care & Medical Leave (Notice B) for 50 or more employees:  Employers may not deny or interfere with employee rights under this law.  New Revision Date of 11/11.

Illinois Updates Workers Compensation Poster; New IL Labor Law Poster Required

The latest required change to the Illinois labor law poster is on the IL workers comp poster.

Illinois workers compensation law has been amended and new information explains that employees may choose an approved Preferred Provider Program (PPP) as their provider.

New Jersey Adds New Recordkeeping Poster; New NJ Poster Required

November 9th, 2011

A new poster requirement has been added to the New Jersey labor law poster called “Employer Obligation to Maintain and Report Records”.

A new state law mandates that employers must post notification of their obligation to maintain and report records under state wage, benefit and tax laws.  The poster also includes contact information for filing complaints regarding an employer’s possible failure to meet the requirements.

In addition to the new posting requirement, employers must also provide each employee with a written copy of the new “Employer Obligation” poster no later than Dec. 7, 2011.

MI Discrimination Poster Changes but Previous Version Still OK

November 3rd, 2011

The Michigan discrimination poster, called “Michigan Law Prohibits Discrimination”, has been updated but the previous version of this required MI labor law poster is still valid.

Some of the wording on the discrimination poster (dated 10/2011) was changed and one sentence was removed. 

According to the Michigan Department of Civil Rights, the poster was changed “in an effort to make it a little clearer” but there is no requirement to update the poster.
