What’s changed on my labor law poster?
Maine’s minimum wage increases from $7.00 per hour to $7.25 per hour, effective Oct. 1, 2008. This change has been issued by the state’s Department of Labor.
On Oct. 1, 2009, Maine’s minimum will increase to $7.50 per hour.
Two categories have been eliminated from a section of the Maine labor law posterMaine’s labor law poster that lists those employees who are exempt from minimum wage and overtime provisions of the law. These changes go into effect on July 17, 2008.
Employees in domestic service in private homes, if they are employed by the resident or family of the resident, are no longer exempt from the Maine minimum wage and overtime requirements.
Those employed by public-supported nonprofit organizations or educational nonprofit organizations are also no longer exempt from being paid the Maine minimum wage and overtime. Employees of hotels, motels, restaurants, and other eating establishments are no longer exempt from overtime.
