Michigan Updates Unemployment Compensation Notice

An update to Michigan’s Unemployment Compensation notice has been issued by the Department of Talent and Economic Development. While the notice was released in June, it has a revision date of March 2019.

New and Existing Info on Filing for Unemployment Benefits

Some of the instructions on how to get unemployment benefits have changed. The updated notice now states that employees must do the following:

  • File claims online, by phone, or in-person
  • Register in person and complete a profile at a Michigan Works! Service Center
  • Certify their eligibility for benefits every 2 weeks

Certain requirements of the filing and eligibility process have not changed. Employees are still required to:

  • Actively look for work and complete a work search
  • Be available for work
  • Be able to work

The updated notice also states that those filing for claims on the Unemployment Insurance website (www.michigan.gov/uia) can sign in using MILogin to register or access their MiWAM (Michigan Web Account Manager) account. Because MiWAM (previously Internet Filed Claim System) is still available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, it’s easy to certify eligibility for unemployment benefits or change personal information.
