Annual Minimum Wage Adjustment for Bernalillo County

As we reported a couple of months ago in our blog about minimum wage increases in New Mexico cities, employers in unincorporated Bernalillo County are subject to a minimum wage adjustment every January 1. At that time, we also reported that Bernalillo County’s Minimum Wage notice would probably not be available until March 2019, based on past history.

Well, to our great surprise, the 2019 Minimum Wage notice has already been released, in both English and Spanish. As a result, our trusty Shipping Department will be sending the updated Bernalillo County Poster out to customers very soon.

2019 Minimum Wage Adjustment

Beginning January 1, 2019, employers in the unincorporated areas of Bernalillo County are required to pay their employees a minimum wage of $9.05 per hour. This rate is an increase of $.20 over last year’s minimum wage.

However, the minimum wage for tipped employees has not changed. Employers must continue to pay the federal minimum tipped wage of $2.13 per hour. In addition, if a tipped employee’s hourly rate plus tips do not equal the $9.05 per hour minimum wage, employers are still required to make up the difference.
