New Tacoma Paid Leave Poster Released Early for 2016 Law

The city of Tacoma, Washington  released the labor law poster for its brand new paid leave law early, and employers have plenty of time to order the poster before the February 1, 2016 effective date.

The Ins and Outs of the New Law

The new Tacoma paid leave law applies to all employees working within the geographical boundaries of the city for at least 80 hours in a calendar year. Employers must provide employees with a minimum of one hour of paid sick leave for every forty hours worked, up to a total of 24 hours in a year.

Employees are entitled to the use of accrued sick leave beginning on the 180th calendar day after their start of employment.

Order Early to Maintain Compliance

Even though the effective date for the Tacoma paid leave law isn’t until the beginning of next year, it would be wise to order early so that you are on top of compliance when the law kicks in. The end of the year can be the busiest of times, and compliance waits for no one.
