New categories for which a qualified person cannot be denied a job
Maryland’s Human Relations Commission has issued new revisions to the Employment Discrimination Poster that now includes new categories.
The mandatory labor law poster now states that a qualified person cannot be denied employment in Maryland for 10 specific reasons, including:
- Religion (the previous poster stated “creed”)
- Disability (the previous poster stated “physical or mental disability”)
- Race
- Ancestry or National origin
- Sex
- Age
- Marital Status
- Sexual Orientation
- Gender Identity
- Genetic Information
In addition, the revised poster now states that employment discrimination in Maryland is “unlawful”. The previous poster stated that such discrimination was “illegal”.
There are also changes in the wording of the Maryland labor law poster in a section outlining unlawful discriminatory practices for employment agencies and newspapers. A local phone number has been added to the poster.
