The latest required changes to the Washington DC labor law poster are on the Minimum Wage and Accrued Sick and Safe Leave posters.
New wage information has been added to the Minimum Wage poster. The minimum wage will increase to $9.50 effective July 1, 2014, then to $10.50 effective July 1, 2015, and then to $11.50 effective July 1, 2016. Additionally, wages will increase annually based on the Consumer Price Index beginning on July 1, 2017. There is also new information about overtime pay.
There are many updates to the Accrued Sick and Safe Leave poster, including updated provisions from the new Earned Sick and Safe Leave Amendment of 2013. Employers must now provide paid sick leave for family members’ illnesses or medical appointments. In addition to expanded employee protection from retaliation, civil penalties doubled for employers who violate the Act. The penalties increase from $500.00 to $1000.00 for the first offense, from $750.00 to $1500.00 for the second offense, and from $1000.00 to $2000.00 for the third and subsequent offenses. With these new penalties, there are also expanded enforcement abilities for the DC Office of Wage and Hour.
