Wyoming Updates OSHA Penalties—New Labor Law Poster Required

Did you know that Wyoming has the distinction of being the least populated of the 50 states? Plus, it is the first state to give women the right to vote—hence the nickname “The Equality State.” Not sure what this has to do with the recent OSHA changes? Bear with me…

Wyoming is also the first state in 2018 to issue an updated OSHA notice that includes increased penalties for health & safety violations based on the current federal penalties. This means that it’s time for our Wyoming customers to update their labor law posters in all locations. The new Wyoming poster will have a revision date of 2/2/18.

All the changes to the Health and Safety Protection on the Job notice are outlined below.

What’s New on Wyoming’s OSHA Notice?

Serious, Non-Serious, & Willful Safety & Health Violations

Mandatory penalties of up to $12,675 may be imposed for each serious violation. Optional penalties of up to $12,675 may also be imposed for each non-serious violation.

In addition, penalties of up to $12,675 must be imposed for each day during which an employer fails to correct a safety and health violation beyond the time frame stated in the notice of violation.

Certainly not least in importance, an employer who is convicted of willfully and knowingly violating the law must now be assessed maximum penalties of $126,749 per violation.
