Hedging Our Bets on Nevada’s Updated Wage Bulletins

April 1st is soon upon us, so we are eagerly anticipating the annual release of Nevada’s Minimum Wage and Daily Overtime Bulletins. The wage information, provided by the state’s Office of the Labor Commissioner, will go into effect on July 1, 2017.

What to Expect

Based on the 2006 Minimum Wage Amendment to the Nevada Constitution, the minimum wage and thereby overtime rates must be recalculated each year. This recalculation is based on potential increases in the federal minimum wage or the cumulative increase in the cost of living—whichever is greater.

However, if the minimum wage and overtime rates are not adjusted, it is important to know that the state will update both of the bulletins to reflect the latest information and a new revision date.

One other thing to note is that employees who are eligible to receive health benefits from their employers earn less per hour than those who are not eligible, and so two wage rates will be reflected on each bulletin.
