Minimum Wage Hike Coming Soon to San Jose

The City of San Jose just released a new minimum wage notice, which reflects an increase to $12.00 effective July 1, 2017. Based on the city’s new Minimum Wage Ordinance, employers should be prepared for future increases.

What’s on the Horizon for San Jose?

Starting with the increase to $12.00 on 7/1/17, the city’s minimum wage is on a path to $15.00. Thereafter, annual increases will occur each January 1, as follows:

  • On January 1, 2018, the minimum wage will increase to $13.50.
  • On January 1, 2019, the minimum wage will increase to $15.00.
  • Beginning January 1, 2020, annual increases will be based on the cost of living.
