Employment Laws & VESSA & Notice of Paydays
Effective January 1, 2026, employees in Illinois cannot be discriminated or retaliated against for using an employer-issued electronic device to document violent crime including domestic, sexual, and gender violence. The "Your Rights Under Illinois Employment Laws" notice also now states that employers must provide employees with access to the data stored on these devices related to the violence. The VESSA notice has been updated to reflect the same information as well: that an employee has the right to access any digital documents or communications stored on an employer-issued device relating to crimes of violence, including domestic, sexual and gender violence. Both the "Your Rights Under Illinois Employment Laws" notice and the VESSA notice are available in English and Spanish.
A Payday Notice has also been added to the Illinois English posters to reflect the fact that employers must post a notice about the time and location of paydays for employees to see.
