Alaska’s 2019 Minimum Wage Increase Just Released

Alaska’s new minimum wage rate for 2019 will soon be featured on our updated Alaska poster. While Alaska may be known as The Last Frontier, the state’s Department of Labor and Workforce Development was quick to release the updated Wage and Hour Act notice this year, which has a revision date of October 2018.

Minimum Wage Adjustment for 2019

Alaska’s Wage and Hour Act calls for annual minimum wage adjustments every January 1. Effective January 1, 2019, employers in Alaska must pay a minimum wage rate of $9.89 per hour.

Exceptions to Alaska’s Minimum Wage & Overtime

As we’ve reported previously, Alaska’s minimum wage and overtime requirements apply to nearly all employees in the state. However, below we’ve provided a sampling of individuals to whom minimum wage and/or overtime does not apply.

Minimum Wage:

  • Agricultural workers
  • Certain emergency medical personnel
  • State or local government employees

Overtime:

  • Agricultural workers
  • Employers with three or fewer employees
  • Community health aides employed by a local or regional health organization
