As of July 1, 2018, employers in the City of Emeryville, California are subject to a minimum wage increase, which is based on business size. We are currently updating our Emeryville poster, which will soon be on its way to customers.

New Minimum Wage for Emeryville

For large businesses with 56 or more employees, the minimum wage increases to $15.69 per hour. For small businesses with 55 or fewer employees, the minimum wage increases to $15.00 per hour.

The Emeryville Minimum Wage Ordinance was adopted on July 2015. Since July 1, 2016, the minimum wage rates for large employers have been adjusted annually based on the Bay Area Consumer Price Index (CPI).

For small employers, the ordinance calls for established yearly minimum wage increases through July 1, 2018, when the wage reaches $15.00. Starting July 1, 2019, the annual minimum wage for small employers will match the rate for large employers.

Existing Paid Sick Leave Requirements

Emeryville’s Minimum Wage Ordinance also includes Paid Sick Leave, the details of which appear on the same poster as the minimum wage. While there are currently no changes to the Paid Sick Leave (PSL) law, the following details are outlined on the poster:

  • Large businesses (56 or more employees) must provide employees at least 72 hours of PSL annually
  • Small businesses (55 or fewer employees) must provide employees at least 48 hours of PSL annually

The Emeryville poster also provides contact information for employees who need to file complaints with the city regarding incorrect minimum wage payments, issues related to paid sick leave, or employer retaliation after an employee files a complaint.
