Things are heating up in Arizona, where employees will soon be getting a minimum wage increase, effective January 1, 2019.

Under Arizona’s Fair Wages and Healthy Families Act, the minimum wage will increase again on January 1, 2020, followed by annual cost-of-living adjustments every January 1 thereafter.

Details of Arizona’s Minimum Wage

2019 Minimum Wage Rate

Beginning January 1, 2019, employers in Arizona must pay all full-time, part-time, and temporary employees a minimum wage rate of $11.00 per hour, which is a $.50 increase over last year.

Tipped Minimum Wage

Employers may pay employees who regularly receive tips or gratuities a maximum of $3.00 per hour less than the minimum wage, providing the employers can prove that the employees’ tips plus wages equal at least the minimum wage rate of $11.00 for all hours worked.

Retaliation & Discrimination

The Fair Wages and Healthy Families Act protects employees from retaliation and discrimination related to asserting a wage claim, assisting any other person in asserting such a claim, or informing others of their rights under the law.
