Minimum Wage Update for Los Altos
MINIMUM WAGE NOTICE
Beginning January 1, 2020, and annually thereafter, the minimum wage in Los Altos will be adjusted based on the U.S. Department of Labor’s Regional Consumer Price Index.
As stated on the Minimum Wage notice, the new minimum wage rate of $15.40 applies to employers who are subject to the Los Altos Business License Tax or who maintain a business facility in the city.
Additionally, the new minimum wage must be paid to both adult and minor employees who work at least 2 or more hours per week, not including tips.
KNOW YOUR RIGHTS NOTICE
Employees who exercise their rights to receive the city’s minimum wage are protected from discrimination or other adverse actions by an employer, regardless of immigration status. These protections are outlined on the Know Your Rights notice, which has been updated to include the new 2020 minimum wage rate.
For any violation of the Los Altos Minimum Wage Ordinance, employees may file a civil lawsuit against an employer or file a complaint with the City of Los Altos.
Employees who do not receive the correct minimum wage may contact the Office of Equality Assurance by mail, phone (408-535-8430), or email.
